|
SPECIAL FIREFIGHTING PROCEDURES: Wear
self contained breathing apparatus when fighting fires containing or around
this product. Shut off all sources of
ignition, if possible. Keep exposed
containers cool with water spray to prevent rupture. Evacuate all non-trained personnel. Wear full protection clothing including
helmet. Ventilate area. Contain spill and dike, if possible. For leaks or spills that have not ignited,
water spray can be used to disperse the flammable vapor and protect personnel
attempting to stop the leak. Do not
use direct stream of water because product will float and can be reignited on surface of water. |
|
||||
|
UNUSUAL FIRE AND EXPLOSION
HAZARDS: Firefighters should wear SCBAs in positive pressure mode with full face
shield. Vapors are heavier than air
and may travel long distances and accumulate in low areas or spread along
ground away from handling site.
Eliminate all sources of ignition as vapor may ignite. Carbon oxides may be formed. |

sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid, and other strong inorganic acids. Keep away from all strong acids and strong
bases. |
|
HAZARDOUS DECOMPOSITION OR
BYPRODUCTS: Could produce carbon
monoxide, methanol and formaldehyde. |
|
HAZARDOUS POLYMERIZATION: Will not
occur. |
|
SECTION VI- HEALTH HAZARD DATA |
EFFECTS
OF OVER EXPOSURE:
|
EYES CONTACT: This product is
considered a severe eye irritant.
Contact could cause redness and tearing. Can cause corneal damage. |
|
SKIN CONTACT: Could defat the
skin causing drying and cracking. |
|
SKIN ABSORPTION: Due to the type of product, skin absorption
is unlikely. |
|
INGESTION: Not likely as an aerosol but could be
harmful. This product contains
material considered to be narcotic at high concentrations. Can cause gastric irritation, pain and
vomiting. |
|
INHALATION: Mildly toxic by inhalation. Over exposure could cause headache, nausea,
eye irritation, loss of appetite, a bad taste, lassitude, impairment of
coordination, and reaction time reported. |
|
SYSTEMIC AND OTHER EFFECTS: Human
systemic effects by inhalation:
Changes in EEG, changes in carbohydrate metabolism, nasal effects, conjuctiva irritation, respiratory system effects, nausea
and vomiting. Human system effects by
ingestion: coma, kidney damage and
metabolic changes. Considered a
narcotic at high concentration.
Toluene has been noted to be an experimental teratogen
with mutation data reported and experimental reproductive effects. |
|
EMERGENCY
AND FIRST AID PROCEDURES: |
|
EYE CONTACT: In case of contact with liquid or vapors,
wash eyes with water or neutral saline solution for at least 15 minutes,
lifting eyelids to ensure thorough rinsing.
Remove contact lenses if worn.
If irritation persists, CONSULT PHYSICIAN. |
|
SKIN CONTACT: Remove contaminated clothing,
wash exposed area with soap and water. |
|
INHALATION: Remove victim from contaminated area to
fresh air. Keep warm and at rest (in
the recovery position). If breathing is weak, irregular or has stopped,
commence artificial respiration.
Oxygen may be beneficial.
CONSULT PHYSICIAN. |
|
INGESTION: Rinse mouth with water and, if swallowed,
dilute with water by drinking two glasses of water. DO NOT INDUCE VOMITING. CONSULT PHYSICIAN IMMEDIATELY. |
|
SECTION VII- ENVIRONMENTAL AND
DISPOSAL INFORMATION |
|
ACTION TO TAKE FOR SPILLS/LEAKS: Ventilate area, especially low places where
heavy vapors might collect. Extinguish
all ignition sources. Contain
spill. |
|
WASTE DISPOSAL METHOD: Reclaim by distillation if possible or
remove to permitted waste disposal facility in
accordance with local, state and federal regulations. |
|
REGULATORY INFORMATION: Since regulations vary, consult applicable
regulations or authorities before disposal.

SECTION IX- SPECIAL PROTECTION
INFORMATION |
RESPIRATORY
PROTECTION (SPECIFY TYPE): Select one of
the following NIOSH approved respirators based on airborne concentration of
contaminants and in accordance with OSHA regulations: Full-face organic vapor and acid gas
respirator, full face supplied air respirator, full face pressure demand self
contained breathing apparatus.
PROTECTIVE
GLOVES: Any lined non-permeable rubber
gloves like buna or nitrile.
EYE
PROTECTION: Wear unvented
goggles during operations in which exposure is likely. Wear full face shield.
OTHER
PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT: Non-permeable
clothing to protect all skin from liquid contact.
RECOMMENDED
VENTILATION: Use with appropriate local
