SECTION ELEVEN – TOXICOLOGICAL INFORMATION

ACUTE TOXICITY:

GENERAL PRODUCT INFORMATION:  Diethylene glycol is a central nervous depressant and kidney and liver toxin.  Over exposure may result in liver and kidney damage.  Triethylene glycol monoethyl ether (TGME) is slowly absorbed through the skin.  Chronic oral exposure to TGME may result in changes to the liver and testes.  TGBE has low order toxicity by dermal and oral routes and contact with eyes may result in irritation.  Ethylene glycol is a respiratory and eye irritant.  Ethylene Gylcol is absorbed through the skin.  Ingestion of large amounts has produced kidney damage, metabolic acidosis, renal failure, heart failure, and pulmonary edema.  Calcium oxalate crystals may accumulate in kidney or brain.  Ethylene glycol is a central nervous system depressant characterized by headache, dizziness, nausea, weakness, loss of judgement and coordination, coma and even death at high doses.
